The use of the anthropomorphism method in advertising is a key component to product and brand success in our modern society as well as in the past. According to Joshua Shaffer, the author of the article â€Å"Innovating Advertising: Conventional vs. Innovative Anthropomorphic Advertising Approaches in the Twenty-First Century,† â€Å"Anthropomorphism means the attribution of human traits or characteristics to inanimate objects.† More specifically â€Å"anthropomorphism is a feeling, emotion, or action taken by human beings to attribute human characteristics to inanimate objects (Shaffer).† A common example of this is the phrase â€Å"My dog loves me.† Animals are not typically capable of acquiring the ability to love as well as other human-like emotions. Companies use this technique to give their brands personality by using inanimate objects or animals and giving them human like qualities. Using anthropomorphism, companies develop brand loyalty. â€Å" Brand loyalty is built and strengthened by a company’s ability to create a strong emotional connection to a certain brand (Shaffer).† A strong emotional connection with consumers is an essential part of creating such loyalty because it is not an easy task to build brand loyalty. Mental Health Professional The mental health professional I interviewed was Carol McClelland of Freedom House Recovery Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Carol has worked with Freedom House for a year as the directory of outpatient services and is licensed as a LPC, LPCS, LCAS, CCS, and MA. Carol’s job requires her to be responsible for the direct oversight of all clinical operations and clinical integrity for outpatient services at Freedom House. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, along with a crisis and detox center that is available for contact 24/7. Carol has plenty of experience in the mental health field, such as working as a dual diagnosis/substance abuse outpatient therapist, working with the severely mentally ill, working as a criminal justice outpatient therapist, and also working in a methadone clinic. She chose this career after her experiences in working with mental health, and her extensive education in psychology and counseling. But Eppie has a deep effect on his entire life, and starts the process of restoring Silas shattered spirit. Silas most notable characteristic, however, is that his shift in attitude toward the neighborhood of Raveloe. Whereas he originally wanted nothing to do together, treating the individuals only as a supply for greater gold, within the duration of the book, Silas becomes an upstanding member of their community, one that the people of Raveloe come to admire and respect. Eppie, being curious and lively, often drew Silas from his loom work, and followed him on his excursions for wool. The sight of both sparked a shift in the heads of these individuals, demonstrating their previous impressions of Silas were incorrect, and that, such as all these, he was just human. But today Silas was satisfied with open smiling faces and cheerful questioning, as an individual whose satisfactions and issues could be known.
